"The Strong Are Lonely"
Sent into us by Steve Villette, this unattributed photo is of the School Play in 1959 - the 50th Jubilee Year.
"The Strong Are Lonely" was an American translation of a French adaptation of a German play called "The Holy Experiment" by Fritz Hochwalder. Mr J D Mitchell produced the play with the help of Mr W H Cox.
J L Hope played Cornelius. R T R Bateman played Don Pedro. K W Morell played the Bishop of Buenos Aires and T Champion and G E Martin were officers of the Spanish army. Father Superior, Father Procurator and Father Oros were played by F Allen, H Hawkes and R S Tunbridge respectively. Father Provicial was played by G Beak.
Backstage Mrs Ambers and Mrs Mickleburgh applied the makeup with Mr & Mrs Davies looked after the large wardrobe. Also in attendance was Miss Avice Allchin the Kent County Drama Advisor.
