"AUF WIEDERSEHEN, HERR CHEV"

Paul Chevalier, who has died at the age of 86, taught German at Clarendon House and then Chatham House for over 40 years.
He arrived in Thanet with his German wife in 1964, after spending two exhilarating years in West Berlin at the height of the Cold War.
At the girls' school, where he was christened "Herr Chev", he also taught guitar and over 20 + years he formed a succession of music groups that performed at school concerts.
In the '70s he led the German school exchange to Koblenz annually. Through this, he formed life-long friendships with the German exchange leaders.
Outside school he devoted much of his time to his music and regularly performed at various folk clubs in Kent. He formed several bands including most recently Miscellany.
He is survived by his two beloved children, Bärbel and Stefan.
He will be greatly missed.

His funeral will take place at Thanet Crematorium
on Thursday 18th December at 15.00
