Tony Debling (right) presents the overall Winner's Trophy to Rob Green
Wow, what a scorcher it was for the Old Ruymians' Golf Day on Friday 11th April! In spite of awkward Easter and school holiday timings this year, we had a solid turnout for the golf day. 8 stalwarts competed on the main course with Bob Green finally taking the coveted winner's trophy and John Darby behind him only by virtue of a countback on the back nine.

Regular prize-winner and OR celebrity Terry Gilliland scooped the prize for the Longest Drive on the 7th, whilst newcomer Dhesh Pradaichey, recently flow-in from his entrepreneurial real-estate activities in New York, picked up the prize for Nearest the Pin on the 4th.Two-times winner Barry Holton, and former trophy holder Tony Nicolaou and last year's winner Paul Cobb were outside the prizes this year as was Graham Phillips back with us again this year.
The short-course was no less competitive with Ty Harding, Tony Debling, David Wake, David Dixon and Paul Goatham enjoying the sunshine of the notoriously challenging Northcliffe Course, with Paul Goatham finally emerging the victor. Colin Davey and a sadly injured Phil Goldsmith walked the course providing ample moral(e) support where required.
As has become customary, Tommy Thomas and Bernie Chitty arrived first thing to see the golfers off and Tommy was back for lunch later in the day.
Similarly the OR Chairman Mike Tyrrell and his wife Bonnie, the Hon Secretary David Carr, Hon Treasurer Janet Hughes, Social Secretary John Copeland and his wife Carole and former Treasurer Tony Carpenter enjoyed a first class lunch with the golfers in the North Foreland restaurant.
Thanks must go to the North Foreland Club for their good organisation, exceptionally well kept courses and fine food and restaurant service.
Next year the Golf Day will be held at North Foreland once again: the proposed date is Friday 10th April 2026. We hope to see you there whether playing the long course, the short course or just joining us for lunch.
