Newsletter December 2020

18th December 2020

Dear Old Ruymians,
I hope that you are all well and keeping safe and out of harm’s way!
What a disappointing year 2020 has turned out to be, especially in our bi-centennial year, where we were unable to meet and run any events, especially the AGM and Annual Dinner.

I normally receive a number of articles for our newsletter during the course of the year, but with the lockdowns here in the UK and worldwide, the only limited information received from members, has sadly been obituaries.

Back in July I received an email from John Stroud informing me of the death of his old friend, Gary Mankellow. Mrs Mo Bromley informed us that Christopher (Kris) Bromley died on September 9 2020 in Grimsby where he had worked as a teacher since 1975. He was 67.
In October, I was also notified that Ernest Yeo had passed away by his son. We were informed in October by Mrs Ros Arnold, after receiving the recent newsletter that sadly her husband Roy Arnold had passed away in 2011 and requested that we remove his name from the club database. I sent our deepest condolences and said we would notify the membership of his passing.

With the fluid situation with the government instructions that keep being updated, we will be notifying you when we can confirm Sports and Social events next year. Tony Debling will be confirming the date and planning for the annual golf match, 23rd April 2021, the luncheon which will be joined with the delayed 90th birthday party for Tommy Thomas.

As this is the last newsletter for 2020, Bonnie and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Keep safe,

Mike
